Achievements during my 12 years as Council's chief executive included:
• Achieving top level results against local authority benchmarks for financial management, operational performance, and resident satisfaction.
• Delivering Council’s rejuvenation vision by completing a community facility rebuilding programme and implementing economic development and environmental programmes.
• Achieving a gold award from the NZ Business Excellence Foundation, after leading a multi-year business improvement programme.
• Leading regional shared services for the three-waters services and civil defence.
As Council's chief financial officer, I had responsibility for finance, human resources, information services, business excellence, risk management and establishing Council's Marina and Property companies.
As a finance manager at BNZ I led a corporate restructure programme reducing subsidiary companies from 60 to 30 through company sales, liquidations, and amalgamations. I also had responsibilities including preparation of the Bank's prospectus and other reporting documents.
I worked in Wellington and Washington DC as an auditor and financial consultant. I led assignments for large organisations such as the Reserve Bank of NZ, Accident Compensation Corporation and Brierley Investments, and worked on assignment in Eastern Europe.
